Why does Complete have so much sugar?

Our Vanilla Complete and Chocolate Complete have 10.7 g and 9.8 g of sugar per serve, respectively.

Plant foods do contain natural sugars. Even broccoli has some sugar. For example:

·         1 medium sized banana 12.2 g sugar

·         1 medium sized apple 10.4 g sugar

·         1 cup broccoli 1.5 g sugar

Plant foods that contain natural sugars are also generally accompanied by fibre which is important for digestion and slows down the fast rate of absorption of the sugar. Whereas refined added sugars do not contain this fibre. Check out the Sugar Film for more information about sugars.

We do add a small amount of unrefined organic sugar cane and stevia to provide some sweetness for the product to be flavoursome and not just taste like vegetables. Stevia alone would cause the product to have a bitter aftertaste.

Complex carbohydrates and natural sugars are the body’s preferred source of energy for the body. This fact sheet from the Australia Food Standards shows a person with a regular diet can have up to 50 grams of free sugar, Complete only approx. contains 10g!
