Where Does the Calcium Come From?
Calcium (Ca) is an essential nutrient for our bones. When our Ca intake is high – our bones benefit – When our intake is low, they suffer. Nutrient reference values for Australia and New Zealand have been set as 1300 mg / day for adolescence; 1000mg/day for 19-50 yrs. and 1300 mg/ day for women over 50yrs and men over 70 yrs. Vitamin D and stomach acid are 2 factors that enhance the absorption of Ca. Â
The bioavailability of Ca from plant sources such as cabbage, kale, parsley is ≥ 50% absorbed and interestingly dairy sources are ≈ 30%. (Whitney et al., 2019). These 3 plants are included in our Vegetable Blend, and our plant combination in our Complete – which includes Broccoli Sprouts delivers 50% of the Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) per serve for a healthy adult (400mg) Plus+ 40% of the RDI for Vitamin D to assist with absorption.Â
